Please read these frequently asked questions before contacting me.If you question is NOT answered on here feel free to drop me a line on my Contact page.
Why are you called Ugly?
I got that name because as a kid I tended to have a bad attitude and here down south instead of saying you are being bad or smart ass they say you are being "ugly",So because I tended to then and still do now behave that way people always said I was "being ugly" and the name stuck.
Will you ship or sale your dolls overseas?
Yes I'm more then happy to ship or sale something overseas.Just contact me through my Contact Page of more info or a quote on shipping cost, please include the country you are inquiring about shipping cost to in your message.
Do you do custom/portrait dolls,if so what is the cost of them?
I on occasion when time permits do make custom or portrait dolls, but I only make dolls of subculture people or odd looking people in general.
Custom work starts at around 1000.00,with a 50% deposit required before I begin work.
If you would like to view some of my past portrait work you can look at my Baby Jane doll

Please make note that sometimes I get allot of doll orders so if you want a custom doll you may have to put 30% down to be placed on a waiting list to get one. That price is for for a standard portrait including head, forearms, hands, lower legs and feet. For certain types of doll bodies it limits the costume to something that covers the parts where the arms feet are attached to the cloth body, such as long sleeve shirts and at least a skirt to the knees.I can do a fully sculpted from scratch full body doll or even porcelain ball jointed dolls with full bodies but the price goes up for those
The price can go up depending on if there is extra work involved like if I have to paint tattoos on the doll or if the costume is very elaborate.
I am not a doll factory I do all of my work by myself totally unaided,I make everything by hand,it can take me 6 months or more to finish a custom doll,so please be aware of that before commissioning custom work if you need it before a set date.Your doll also must be fully paid for before I ship it out.
If you'd like more info on portraiture you may contact me *serious inquiries only*.You can also inquire if I'm free to do them at the present time or if you can have your name placed on the waiting list to get one.To start on a doll I ask that you at least put a deposit of 30% down on the doll before I start.I will also need you to send me a few photos of the person the doll will be of from looking straight ahead, from the left and right sides and also looking down on the person's face,I will also need a photograph either snail or e-mailed to me of the person in the outfit you wish to have the doll in.There are no refunds of custom dolls or any of my work so please read descriptions and info carefully before committing to buy.
Do you do lay away on your work or can I work out a payment plan?
Yes but the item has to be over 100.00.Usually the best thing to do is purchase the doll with a credit card and that way you can manage your monthly payments there,I take credit cards through Paypal so it is secure.
Sometimes I will make exceptions and let people make payment plans through say paypal or money orders. But the determined payment MUST be paid every month for what ever determined amounts to finish off the payment. For something say 100.00 the payment period will be 2 months. For say a 1000.00 it would be a period of 6 months.
If you do put the doll on lay away or hold to pay for it with a payment plan and end up canceling the order before the first payment is made you will be charge a 30.00 restocking fee.So again ONLY serious enquiries are welcome.
What are your dolls made out of?
I work in porcelain, ceramic clay, polymer clay, paper Mache and anything else that is durable and intrigues me.
How long have you been making dolls?
I made my first doll when I was around 16 and started trying to do it professionally at about 19 and I haven't stopped since.
What inspires you?
My Dreams,I consider myself a true surrealist in the fact that allot of my work is inspired by dream imagery.I'm also inspired by religion and spiritual pursuits.
What was your first doll?
My Cripple doll was the first doll I ever made.It was made as a birthday gift for my mother who has always collected odd dolls and just odd things in general.
What is the price range of your work?
From about 15.00 for some of my silk screened open editions plushies to 1000.00 for elaborate custom work.It depends on what the dolls is and how much work and materials go into it.
How did you learn to make dolls?
I'm totally self taught with all my arts.I think art is something you are just born with. It's not easy at times being self taught, but one of the advantages of it is that it helps you to really develop your own style.
Why do you make so much art featuring dead children?
First off let me say that when I do work of children that have passed away or things like ,female circumcision or concentration camp victims,it is done with the UTMOST RESPECT to the subject matter.I am not one of those artist that splatters blood on or sticks knives in a baby dolls to try and show how spooky and shocking the artist can be.Those are more of horror movie props or odd collectables. When I tackle work like that as I said it's done in the utmost respect and I try and make it look as serious as the subject matter really is.
When I deal with a sensitive subjects I look at it from more of a Memento Mori or mourning art perspective or something along the lines of Post Mortem Daguerreotypes.
I have had people write me angry letters thinking I was glorifying the subject matter after seeing some of my Memento Mori style work. They do not understand that yes I know it hurts to look at it,it's supposed to hurt and cause you to reflect when you see something like that,Because when people reflect they might think twice about their own behavior.
Back to the original question. It's kind of a long story why I got into doing allot of art featuring dead children.Mainly as with most of my art,it's because of dreams I have or have had.The first one that started it all was:
I had a dream that I was in this sort of shotgun house that was split into 2 apartments or rooms. In one of the "apartments" was inhabited by a Punch puppet. He lived on a ledge/shelf in the apt and would walk back and forth and taunt me and generally annoy me.So I thought up a plan to get back at him.I went over to his room which was painted blue and red like his outfit and I offered to repaint it for him.
He made some annoying remark and he even talked in the traditional Punch voice but agreed to let me.
I started painting him into a corner on his ledge,He asked me what I was doing? I replied I was priming the walls to paint them and he asked something else I don't remember and I said "oh but I will paint my side too!I will paint mine blue" Then I backed him to the wall and painted him too so he would stick to the wall, then I painted over him and he became one with the wall so I got my things and left to go to a dance.
When I woke up I had this insane weird knowledge that I had to make art of dead children, especially art of children cruelly killed by their parents. Then the word "Hellfire" kept running through my mind."
Since that time I have been making art of dead children I see in my dreams to answer the second part of the question.I make art of dead children so people will be forced to look at the real horror and pain of it all.
There are things in their world which are not pretty, children dying at the hands of adults and especially their own parents happened to be one of those, but just because something isn't pretty, doesn't mean it should be ignored, especially if it's a problem.
And I think if people have their noses shoved into the evils of the world, face to face they would actually grasp the reality of it,and not get the luxury of the media versions of it.If that were done allot of people would think twice about their actions. If wanting to bring suffering to light makes me a bad or "strange" person, well so be it.
I'm doing a low budget film, photo, website ect ect ect project, would you give me some dolls to use as props?
No I will not "give" you things. But if you would to use a piece of my work as a prob. You may do so by paying a fee of 20% of the dolls total for the doll rental fee and you will also have to place a deposit for the total of the doll you wish to use, which will be refund minus the 20% rental fee.
How did you become a model?
More or less people just started taking pic's of me I guess because they were familiar with me through my doll work and I assume they found my look and my line of work interesting.
How did you break into Alt Modeling?
I actually don't have a clue on how to do it from the ground up.I never wanted to be a model or even entertained the notion of becoming one.I got into it because people just started talking my pic because most of them knew about my dolls,so they liked my art and wanted to take a pic of the weird person that makes the weird dolls.I then realized that was a really good *and free* way to get publicity for my dolls and art so that is why I kept doing it and still do it to this day.
The best advice I can give to any "aspiring model" is *I know it sounds corny as hell* but be yourself.Don't try and be a bad or even good knock off or copycat of your fave model or rock star, because not only is that just unoriginal, but why would somebody want to take a pic of a bad copy of another person when they could just go get the real thing.Plus if the person you are copying figures out what you are doing you will make a enemy of that person for life.
Also get yourself a online modeling portfolio Wicked Talent is a good place to build yourself one or Model Mayhem ,but if you ask my two cents,Wicked Talent is better because it's only Alternative types on there, plus it's a small close net group so you are less likely to run into a dangerous person on there that is just posing as a photographer or model. The woman that runs Wicked Talent, Donna Ricci is a ALT model herself and a sweet lady to book so I highly recommend Wicked Talent. It's about 30.00 a year or 5.00 a month to have a WT profile so it's also inexpensive.
To set yourself up a portfolio you will need at LEAST 3 decent professional looking pic's of yourself. So either get a friend with a bit of talent with the cam to take your pic,or dig around for photography students in your area that would be willing to do TPF which is trade or time for prints,in other words you model for them for free and they in turn let you use the photos for your portfolio.
Once you have some pic's in your portfolio you can get on say the Wicked Talent casting board and see what photographers are in your area or will be in your area, then you can inquire with them if they would like to shoot with you.Again it will likely be TPF.
Speaking of TPF if you are getting into alt modeling for money you are in the WRONG business.Unless you are a very well known model you will very likely not get paid by allot of photographers and only do TFP which is fine to build up your portfoilo but doesn't help pay rent
About the only thing that girls known and unknown can be almost guaranteed to get paid work for is either nude, maybe if they are lucky just topless or erotica/soft core photos.Even then it's not a large amount of money payment for most erotica photos is about 100.00 to *if you are lucky* 300.00 a shoot. At times girls are attracted to erotica alt modeling because it's the only way they can get paid or they think it is the only way to get well known. But you need to really think it through before you take your clothes off because once they published it can never be taken back.Believe me somebody in your home town will likely see it,and make sure you are ok with that.Think about the fact that maybe the creepy guy at the gas station that is old enough to be your dad will be pleasuring himself to you photos.
And don't ever let anybody tell you that you have to do alt erotica to get attention or get somewhere as a model.I have never even done so much as topless work and I got along just fine.I managed to be just as established with my clothes on as other girls who have done more reveling work or even erotica/porn.Sadly I think because of the popularity of things like SG I think most subculture girls that want to model think that leaving your clothing on will prevent you from getting established and that is just not true.
Also if you are going to be a model I suggest you try and save up some money to travel around,That way if you are wanting to shoot with more then just a handful of photographers and you don't live in a major city or near one like say NYC or LA,you will have a chance to do that.
Before going on a shoot with a new photographer ALWAYS ask for references and the websites and e-mail addresses of at least 3 models they have worked in the past. That way you can contact past models that have worked with the photographer to find out if he is a creep or has less then professional practices which could include anything from never giving you your prints to worse making advances towards the models. And DO contact the models in the references and ask them about the photographer.I have other girls mail me all the time about references and I'm more then happy to tell them if the photographer is a safe person to work with most other models will be happy to give you the thumbs up or the thumbs down on working with someone.
When you do go on shoots tell the photographers you are taking a escort and DO IT,preferably a male one.Even if you are a male model do not go alone.I don't care if it's the most famous photographer in the Alt photography scene, take someone with YOU.Better safe then sorry. If the photographer has a prob with that, you know something is fishy there and tell them thanks but no thanks.
Some photographer don't want you to bring a boyfriend or a spouse on the shoot,at times it is just because they don't want the boyfriend to get jealous or make the model uncomfortable.Which I can understand in a way but they SHOULD allow you to take someone else with you.If they don't just politely decline to do the shoot.
I have worked with some very well known photographers and they never had a problem if I brought somebody along with me.So please do not feel weird about telling them you are bring somebody, they will not be offended,if they are again tell them thanks but no thanks. It's also good to ask other models you TRUST about photographers before you work with them.
I hope some of that info has helped some of you.
